ROWGA – THE YOGA OF ROWING

There are many poetic and sensual water metaphors in traditional Buddhist texts: in Lindsey’s latest book he takes the further step of making literal water our place of practice.

This is no dry instruction manual on meditative rowing but rather an evocative weaving of personal vignettes from his life, poetry, meditation instruction, and a wealth of inspiring photographs. Lindsey writes with a deep passion for this subject and from plentiful experience, encouraging the actual or aspiring rowgin or rowgini to bring their meditation practice off the cushion and into an active life experience requiring environmental awareness.

I particularly appreciate the idea of drifting and making that apart of one’s practice. It has a similar flavor to Thoreau’s sauntering practice, and is something that would truly enhance the common experience of modern life.
